title pic one h-e-double-hockey-sticks of a weekend

So far this weekend, I have:

  • performed several surgical procedures
  • walked 16 miles
  • witnessed the downfall of Denmark due to regicide
  • gotten my hips back

And by that I mean that I:

  • played a medical game on Marieke’s new Wii in which the player acts as a surgeon and must perform highly intense operations on several patients
  • literally walked 16 miles, during and after which I thought my hips might literally fall out of my body (thank goodness for skin)
  • went to see Hamlet
  • slept for about 10 hours and woke up feeling much better in my hip region

Now, some of you may be wondering why on earth any relatively sane person would walk such a distance on purpose. Well, I don’t know where you’ve been for the last six months (Maybe you’re just joining us here at Onward Hoe!, in which case, welcome!), but next month, I’ll be walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. It’s 39.3 miles over the course of two days. I’ll walk 26.2 miles on the first day and 13.1 on the second day. So in preparation for the event, I’ve been taking progressively longer walks, yesterday’s being the longest to date.

I have to say that having now walked ten miles short of what I’ll be walking on the first day of the real walk, I’m more than a little nervous about it. If any of you have any tips on keeping my hips from hurting, I’d love to hear them. And if you’ve been meaning to donate, but haven’t yet done so, might I suggest doing it now?
