title pic new advertising technique

Posted by beth on February 10, 2008

I was behind a car at a stoplight the other day, and the license plate of this car was in one of those frame thingies that usually advertise the name of the car dealership where the vehicle was purchased or a favorite school/team, or sometimes, if you’re lucky, they say something like “God’s Girl” or “Christians are SQUARE…With God!”

Anyhoe, this one was a new one for me. The bottom part of it was one of those LED ticker things like you see in places with really low advertising budgets. You know, they’re pretty much just one step up from the marquee signs you see at fast food restaurants and churches. So anyway, this thing was scrolling an ad for some new horror movie. I forget what it was called, but it made me wonder: Who’s programming the advertising on that thing? Is the owner of the car really that invested in getting people to go see this movie? Or is there another man behind another curtain somewhere controlling what the rear of this person’s car is broadcasting as he/she drives about unawares?

I think I would personally rather know and approve what my car is saying to other drivers. Even if it’s, “Heavenly Forecast: Reign Forever!”
