title pic I’m quasi-famous

Posted by beth on March 17, 2008

I can’t say that quasi-fame is anything new for me. In the summer of 2001, I went down to Caswell for a weekend, and upon entering the staff house lounge, a complete stranger said to me, “You’re Beth Parent! I want a massage later.” Now, before you go thinking crazy things, let me just clarify that I had gained some amount of fame around those parts for my massaging prowess. Wait, that still sounds kind of shady. It wasn’t at all, but suffice it to say that when I worked there, it was not unusual to see a line of college boys slumped over in a rumpled pile at my feet as I sat on the couch with another in front of me, slowly slipping away in the same manner beneath the magic of my freakishly strong hands. Anyhoe, this particular young man had heard these tales, and I don’t know how he recognized me immediately upon my entry into the house, but he did, and I was duly freaked out.

Fast-forward a few years to maybe 2006? I think it was the spring of 2006. I was at church one night, and we were placed in small groups for some sort of discussion. We all went around and gave our names. I said I was Beth, to which one woman in my group replied, “Wait…Beth Parent?” Again. Duly freaked. It just weirds me out when people know who I am and I don’t know who they are, but I suppose I should get used to it, because as of this weekend, I’m totally kind of famous.

If you’ll scroll down to the post entitled “TEEN GIRL SQUAD,” you’ll see that there’s quite the bevy of comments accompanying it, most of them coming from complete and total strangers who found a link to Onward Hoe! here. You see, what had happened was that Lauren sent the link to the post about our cupcakes to Craft Magazine, which is a really fun magazine about quirky and somewhat subversive crafts. And they TOTALLY POSTED IT on their blog! And so now, fun and quirky crafty friends nation-wide have been exposed to Onward Hoe!, which I just find incredibly grood. I mean good. And great. Great and good.

Ok, time to prepare class materials for the week. We’re going to do a photojournalism project, so I’m very excited. Just have to get some things matted and framed. Or at least copied and laminated.

Onward, Hoes!!
