title pic I know who I’m supposed to marry.

First of all, the most heartfelt and ecstatic congratulations are in order for my friends Ann and Adrian, who recently became engaged!! For more information on them, see my posts surrounding New Year’s ’07. Ann is the one I stayed with when I went to FUNDON that year. And Adrian is…well…her fiance.

Ann emailed DLF and me yesterday to share the news, which led to DLF saying that Ann’s former roommate, Lara, was also engaged. I don’t really know Lara, but DLF is my former roommate, and she suggested that she and I should also have simultaneous engagements, which begged the question: Who gets Mr. Darcy and who gets Mr. Bingley?

It took only a little thought, however, to determine that she would most certainly kill Mr. Bingley within a fortnight, having already done away with his sisters. Therefore, if either of us are to have any chance at felicity in marriage, I’m going to get Bingley and she’s going to get Darcy. She would, after all, always be able to put him in his place when he gets too proud. And prejudiced.

I don’t know if this makes me the Jane and her the Lizzy or not. I also don’t know where we stand on the Mary/Rhoda comparison. And although I’ve not no qualms about being the Rhoda, Lauren’s definitely more of a New Yorker than I am, so maybe she’s the Rhoda. And which of us is more likely to twirl around and toss her hat into the air in the middle of a public street. Ahem…I think we all know that’d be me.

So how about it, DLF? You can be Elizabeth Bennet if I can be Mary Richards.
