close call

On my way home from church yesterday, I noticed that I was running low on gas, and I thought that I would have to fill up some time that afternoon. I had to go up to extreme north Raleigh later to retrieve my camera from Anna’s house, so I thought the trip back would be the perfect time to stop by the gas station, especially when my gas light came on just as I was leaving my apartment. I completely under-estimated the distance to Anna’s house, though, and there were literally no gas stations out in her area.
So I was driving down 540 thinking about who I could call if I ran out of gas on the highway. Coming upon a promising-looking exit, I pulled off. Nothing.
I got back on and headed to the next exit, where there was a little BP station boasting$2.79 regular petrol. I filled up, friends, and I don’t think my tank has ever been that empty before. Some of you may remember a similar incident where I got really really really ridiculously low on gas and filled up my 12-gallon-capacity tank with 11.5 gallons. Well, yesterday, I filled up that same tank with…are you ready?
11.97 gallons.
It worked out really well, though, because the “cheap” gas station I would have gone to otherwise was charging $2.85 per gallon. That’s a whole $0.72 I saved! Or rather…EARNED.
