Every once in a while, I get bored with the layout of Onward Hoe!, so I look around for new themes, I download about ten of them that I really like, and then I find that eight of them have some sort of technical error in them that I lack the know-how to fix, and the other two turn out to actually be kind of lame. Or if they’re not lame, there are other problems, like my blogroll disappears, or you have to scroll way down to get to my Twitterances, or the font randomly changes size in the middle of the post. Or they’re too plain, or the colors aren’t “me,” or the title disappears and is replaced by a period, or when you try to post a comment, aliens abduct you and replace your brains with tapioca pudding, or she-bears come out of the woods and maul you, or something else tragic like that. And believe me, faithful friends and random readers, I’m with you in the dislike of all these things (particularly the she-bears), and I appreciate you voicing your opinions of my layouts, so please keep ‘em coming.
And I would ask you to be patient with me in my search for the perfect blog theme. I know that this one is a bit surprising to those of you who know my true feelings about birds, but I just love the colors and the simple layout and the curly tree branches. It’s just so cute, I couldn’t resist, but then again, I may keep the layout and have some handy, designy buddy make me a new image for the top there. We’ll see. But now you’ve got the blogroll and the Twitterances and everything conveniently located on one side for your linking pleasure.
So…what do you think?

Very nice. I did like the image on the previous version, although not the layout. I hear there are some designery cats that live near you, but apparently you have to keep on them like a taskmaster.

I think I really like this one. Can I have it? JK.

The choice is very surprising, given your previous frantic attempts to kick pigeons whenever you see them. I do like it, though. Two thumbs up with a big cheesy grin!

I like this one better than the previous one. I appreciate the use of the picture behind “true feelings”.

this is better. but perhaps not the one. or maybe it is. i don’t know. the layout is pretty good. i was indeed perplexed by the bird, since you and i have similar feelings about the little monsters. but the colors are nice, although perhaps a bit subdued for such a sassy bunch of cilantro as yourself? brava, though, in making great progress. after i live with this one for a little bit i’ll give you firmer feedback. i am so violently opposed to change most of the time that it’s hard for me to tell on the first viewing! xoxoxo

OK, first of all: I’m about to be labeled a “gravatar,” and I have strong misgivings about that. Even still, I’ve been prompted by the instructions just above this text box that say: Speak your mind. So I’ll proceed with doing so.
I love this layout. It’s FABULOUS for maximizing my enjoyment and usage of Onward Hoe! as a blog I include in my daily reading. However, I am aware of Beth’s detestation of avian creatures. I will now propose a solution to that part of the header design: replace the bird with a squirrel. You all may remember a previous post where Beth was attempting to befriend one of these vile rodents, and I swooped in with a plan to squash that notion (“Don’t wave at it–give it the finger!” I said.) Well, I’m afraid Beth persists in waving at and generally encouraging these nasty flea-infested yard rats. So why not put one of them on the blog? Preferably a cute, furry one–which are only available in one’s imagination.

I believe this is the post to which Whitney is referring: http://www.onwardhoe.com/2008/10/22/a-friendly-tea-time/
