and I call myself a hippie (sometimes)
By beth | August 13, 2008
I’m not really a hippie (although some would call me one). Sure, I’m mostly vegan. And I try to use those re-usable grocery bags. And I have t-shirts that say things like, “Hug a tree,” and, “Arms are for hugging.” And I only bathe like every other day. But apart from those things, I’m really not much of a hippie at all. I don’t believe in “free love” (unless Buzz Ravenel is involved), I don’t experiment with drugs, and I must have killed like eight trees today with all the copies I made for the class I’m getting ready to teach.
It’s going to be a fun class, I think. It’s a two-week deal wherein we alternate in-class days and field trip days. We’re going to go to all sorts of neat-o historic and educational sights in Raleigh, Cary and Durham. You really can’t beat that. But in preparation for it, I did pretty much wipe out an entire forest single-handedly. Woopsie. The price we pay for education.
Anyhoe, that’s boring. I’m sorry. But it’s what I did today between three-hour long registration sessions and one three-hour slot where I came home, ate lunch and watched Friends. And now I am exhausted and going to bed.
Tomorrow, though, I’m going to that killer family reunion I told you about before!! So that’ll be fun, and MAYBE when I come back, the “Legally Blonde: The Musical” soundtrack will be out of my head. Somehow I doubt it, but there’s always a chance. Oh, by the way, I watched “Legally Blonde: The Musical” in Wilmington last weekend, and although you might not believe it, it’s really really good. I’ve probably got about 30% of it memorized at this point, having listened to it all week, and I’m not tired of it at all yet, so I anticipate full memorization by the end of the month. And then I will annoy you all by singing it whenever it pops into my mind during the course of conversation. Just a fair warning.
*And just a note to everyone who loves me, it’s coming to Durham next April. Hint hint.

What do you mean you don’t believe in “free love”? Are you one of those people who’d like to extend NAFTA to include her bedroom? Look, baby, it’s either free love or the free market; take your pick. And only amateurs “experiment” with drugs. Those in the know get prescriptions and let the pros handle the details.
