Let the Bethday Countdown Begin!
Oh it just comes around again so fast, doesn’t it? I can’t even handle it! It feels like only yesterday that I was in New York, being dragged through the east village to a karaoke bar to celebrate my 24th birthday. And soon after moving to Raleigh, I celebrated my 25th birthday at Bojangles with Marieke and Slut Boyfriend…then my 26th (again with Marieke and Slut Boyfriend, although I think we went to Chili’s that year)…27th (a week-long celebration beginning with Marieke and SB, then a surprise party thrown by my amazing roomie and all my fabulous friends, and finally culminating in THE FLU!)…
Time flies.
So yeah, I’m almost 28, which weirds me out for several reasons. First of all, that means that I graduated from high school A DECADE AGO. I mean OH. MY. GOSH, I’m getting old. And while high school definitely feels like a decade ago, and while I have (hopefully) certainly grown up quite a bit since then, I still remember it so well. I hope that I always will. Those were good times.
Also, and I guess this is related, my first roommate in New York (Lily Lu) and I used to always talk about being 28 for some reason. I don’t really know why, but I think the 10-years-out-of-high-school thing had something to do with it. And being only 23 at the time, five years out seemed like such a long time, so 28 seemed very old to us. I know better now, though. I mean, I definitely feel like rather a different person now from who I was at 23, but I don’t feel drastically older. Just cooler and more sure of myself.
So it’s t-minus 8 days and counting (counting today, not counting my birthday day). March 6, people. Get ready.

Wait until you realize it’s been almost a decade since you graduated from college.
*Shudder* No thank you, old timer.
*sniff* I miss our in-between birthday celebrations with Cajun Chicken Pasta, Lobsteritas, and a one Mr. Waiter trying to get his cannabis mack on. *a tear*
“T-minus (blank)” is my favorite countdown term.
And I still end up being surprised that you’re older than my older brother. (Only by a month or so, but still.)
I’m so glad that I’m a part of your Bethday celebrations every year. Hopefully SB will stop being such a loser and actually email for this year’s plans. If not, SB will be replaced by VA.
