here we go again
I hit the snooze button a lot in the mornings, and yesterday morning, every time the radio woke me up, before I hit the snooze and went back to sleep, I reminded myself to remember this dream. It may just be the weirdest one yet.
I think I was on some sort of retreat, because I remember being in a small group “breakout session” or something at one point. When things started getting good, though, we were all in a living room, presumably during our free time, watching TV. And on the TV was a morning talk show along the lines of “Lies (as I’ve come to call it) with Regis and Kelly.” Well, considering the fact that “Lies” is getting ready to celebrate its 20th anniversary, it’s no surprise that the show in my dream was also coming up on the same milestone.
My dream show also did a daily prize give-away, only rather than giving away trips like Regis and Kelly do, my show gave away money. I think. Anyhoe, because it was the 20th anniversary show, they were giving away a big prize to one lucky winner who knew the name of the first person ever to have received the daily prize on the very first show. Of course, all of us at the retreat were too young to have watched and/or cared about that sort of thing twenty years ago, but we started trying to think of the name anyway, and the name we came up with was Sarah Cooper. “Yeah,” we said, “Sarah Cooper. That sounds about right.”
So the hosts on “Morning Talk Show” pick out their contestant, and they ask him, “Do you remember the name of the first prize winner from our very first show?” And the guy says to them, very matter-of-factly, as though they have just asked him to recall the name of the first president of the United States, “Yeah, it was Zimmerman Limmermacht.”
And watching it on the TV, I turn to the person next to me and say, “Zimmerman Limmermop?” But then the name flashes on the screen, and I say, contentedly, as though Limmermacht is a completely normal name (as opposed to Limmermop), “Oh.”
Well then, friends, oh then… Not only does the lucky winner win his big prize, but guess who else wins a prize for being remembered (and I suppose for being such a vital piece of “Morning Talk Show” history). Oh yeah. You know it. Dream “Regis” shouts out, “Ladies and Gentlemen…ZIMMERMAN LIMMERMACHT!!” And a curtain opens, and out he comes as they announce that Mr. Limmermacht will be receiving as his prize…get this…$2000 and a hotel. And y’all, he was overjoyed.
Now, the man is in his 50’s or so. He has a mohawk in the front, and in the back, his hair is reminiscent of Mel Gibson’s in Braveheart. He’s wearing a kilt and carrying a puppet. He is a middle-aged, Scottish, punk ventriloquist. Only when he starts talking, we realize that he’s not Scottish at all but has, instead, a strong cockney accent. And he points out that he’s so emotional that he has begun to cry, but only, as he says, “out me right eye.”

Seriously, are you on crack?
It’s amazing how you would dream about me when I’m fifty years old. You truly do have psychic powers.
I don’t know who frightens me more: you when you dream… or Will.
